Barbara Flynn is the President of People First, Inc. The company was established in 1999 and provides payroll services to small-medium size businesses. What makes People First unique is that as part of the payroll service, they provide, at no extra charge, a full Human Resource department that will assist businesses in all of their HR needs. For example, they can write employee handbooks, manage unemployment compensation claims, provide coaching and counseling for employee relations issues, develop compensation plans, administer benefit plans and assist with recruiting needs.

Barbara served as Controller for a $23 million family entertainment operation. She assumed the operation of an accounting office where areas of responsibility included both accounting and human resources. She converted a manual accounting system to a computerized system.

Prior to that, Barbara was co-owner of a high-fashion jewelry manufacturing company based in New York. She partnered with the designer and established the business from the ground up. She started the company with two employees and when she left, the company had 84 employees working two shifts. She established a Sales office in London and a Manufacturing facility in the Philippines. She organized all phases of an international fashion accessory operation, took company from startup to a $5 million operation in five years. She developed systems and procedures for production, quality assurance, shipping/receiving, import/export, accounting, human resources, administration and management information systems.

In all of her activities, she achieves success with strong team-building skills and the ability to follow projects through with full documentation. She has established 10 new companies from inception (incorporation and registration) to successful operations. She has established all phases of a Human Resource Department for several organizations. Developed policies and procedures, employee handbooks, compensation and benefits programs, training programs, career development programs, job evaluation programs, human resource information systems, recruitment and relocation programs, employee relations programs, investigation and audit procedures, safety programs, profit sharing and 401(K) programs, company newsletters and affirmative action programs.

She is a public speaker at various associations and organizations presenting a variety of business related topics.

Barbara received her Bachelor’s Degree in Language & Linguistics from Florida Atlantic University and received her Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management from Nova Southeastern University. She was certified Senior Professional in Human Resources in 2002. This is the highest credential obtainable in the human resources profession. She has been in the HR field for over 30 years.

She is a past President of the Human Resource Association of Broward County and has a leadership role in the Producers Chapter of Business Networking International. She is a member of the Society of Human Resource Management and the American Payroll Association.

Barbara is an active member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church and has held many leadership roles in various ministries. She is an avid sports fan and has had season tickets to all of South Florida’s professional teams. She also is a season ticket holder to the Broward Broadway series. She has performed with the American Legion Symphonic Band.

Barbara is a goal-oriented individual. She set herself on track to lose weight and lost 136 pounds a year and a half. Over the past four years she has completed over 20 half marathons and 2 full marathons. Her ultimate goal is to get her law degree.

She brings a lot to the table and has a thorough understanding of what it takes to run a business. This expertise gives her the competitive advantage when offering People First services to her clients. Her motto says it all: “People First… where everything begins and ends with people”.
