A letter in the mail stated that People First, Inc., my company, was not in compliance with my Labor Law Poster. This disturbed me because as an HR Professional with over 40 years of experience, I knew I was in compliance with the law. That got me thinking though how many business owners out there would take this letter seriously and make a purchase.
While the posting of Labor Law posters is required of business owners, there are many scammers out there who prey on the innocent who do not know any better and take these notices seriously. The compliance notices are typically generated when a new business registers with the state at the beginning of the year, and they are also generated any time the scammers are looking to increase their sales.
Our clients are sending us their “official” looking notices and ask if this is something they need to purchase. The letters come with a return address from the state capital and really do look very “official”. I have had to take a close look at these notices to ensure they are coming from scammers; that is how “official” they have looked. You may also see emails with the same information stating you are not in compliance. Do not fall for them!
Make sure you have a Human Resource professional on your team, either in-house or someone you can call for advice. They will make sure you are compliant with the most recent requirements. If you do not have anyone on your team you can call, please reach out to myself or my staff here at People First, Inc. Our Core Values revolve around being there for others and to educate them on business matters.
