Proud Papas expecting a bundle of joy. Listen to me. So this is a case where I got a call from an employee who was concerned because he had put in for paternity leave. He wanted to let his wife be home for 12 weeks first, and then he would be home the second 12 weeks of their baby’s life, so that basically the baby would be six months old before it had to go to daycare.
And so he put the paternity leave in and lo and behold, the day before he was going to go out on leave, he was fired. Employers beware, that is not something you should do. Did he have a case on his hand? So while I look out for employer’s best interest, sometimes I’m telling employees what they can do because their employer made a big mistake.
Do you wanna attract good talent? You might wanna consider having a really good maternity and paternity leave policy. We can help with that. Give us a call.
