There’s a good reason I tell my clients to hire slow and fire fast. Listen in. Have I got news for you, I got a call the other day from a client, been with me a very long time. We’ve been celebrating our 25th anniversary. So this client’s we’re pretty long term and they called to say they had an employee who they were having disciplinary issues with, and lo and behold.
The day they were gonna call me, the employee came in and said that they had hurt themself in the warehouse and they didn’t know how to handle that situation. They’re opening up themselves to a whole can of worms if they were to terminate that employee at this point, because it could be considered retaliation because they got hurt on the job.
So at this point, the employer needs to deal with the workers’ comp case, see if the employee’s gonna be out, how long they might be out, and then. Document all of the disciplinary issues they’re having, but they need to wait and see how that workers’ comp claim goes before they take any action. And I always tell folks, please hire slow fire fast, then you won’t have these problems walking through a workers’ comp mine field.
Give me a call, we can help.
