What Laws Apply to Compensation & Benefits?

June 16, 2022by People First0

The Fair Standards Labor Act requires employers to properly pay employees for their job duties. This includes overtime, minimum wage and child labor. Keep in mind some states have legislation that is stricter on employers and the rule of thumb whichever legislation benefits the employee more is the one to comply with.
Family Medical Leave requires employers to provide 12 weeks of unpaid medical leave. There are certain requirements under the law.
Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act provides continued health benefits when an employee terminates employment. Again, there are certain guidelines to be followed.
There is the Employee Retirement Income Security Act which addresses requirements for employee benefits.
The Affordable Care Act is more recent legislation requiring certain employers to provide affordable health insurance to their employees.
