In this case, I really like the supervisor’s answer to the employee because if the employee presents the information to the IT department sooner than expected, that would become the future expectation.
And as a dear friend of mine said, you want to underpromise and overdeliver. And so in this case, that’s what the supervisor wants to do. It is not expecting it till next week. This gives the team an opportunity to get the work done and get it turned in at the expectation date rather than sooner, which could cause problems down the road.
