At People First, one of our core values is Leaders — and we don’t define leadership by job titles or positions. We define it by actions. Leadership shows up in the way we communicate, how we handle challenges, and how we support each other and our clients. It’s something every person on our team can demonstrate, every single day, no matter their role.
In our recent staff meeting, we kicked things off with a quick 5–10 minute exercise called “What Would a Leader Do?” We shared three real-world scenarios our team faces regularly — like responding to a stressed client, catching a mistake before it becomes a bigger issue, or noticing when a teammate is overwhelmed. The team responded popcorn-style with what they believed a People First leader would do in each moment.
The results were better than I could have hoped for. The conversation was thoughtful, practical, and energizing — and the feedback afterward was that it was one of the most useful topics we’ve ever covered in a staff meeting. What stood out most was how aligned our team is: calm under pressure, solutions-focused, accountable, and always willing to support each other without blame.
It was a great reminder that our values aren’t just words on paper — they’re a living part of our culture. When leadership is modeled and reinforced consistently, it becomes contagious. And when every team member feels empowered to lead, the entire organization becomes stronger — for each other, and for the clients who trust us every day.
